Using natural branches and simple weaving techniques, students will create a one-of-a-kind piece where structure, texture, and negative space evolve organically. No prior experience is necessary—this class emphasizes curiosity, experimentation, and working in conversation with the materials rather than following a fixed plan.

Select a Branch and Fiber Materials
• Select natural branches with nteresting shapes, curves, and offshoots
• Test for strength
• Choose from wool, yarn, ribbon, sticks and more

Clean & Preserve Branch
• Wash and scrape branches
• Seal with wood hardener

Create the Warp (The Base):
• Anchor your thread and build the warp

Create and Weave the Weft (The Pattern):
• Design your pattern
• Apply simple weaving techniques to define space
• Use negative space as an intentional design element

Develop Visual Storytelling
• Connect branches securely to create balance and stability
• Allow the form and pattern to evolve without a fixed end goal
• Use branch offshoots as paths, perches, or landscapes
• (Optional) Incorporate miniature figures or symbolic elements

Refine and Finish the Piece
• Make adjustments for flow, strength, and visual balance
• Observe how light and shadow interact with the sculpture
