Many artists reach a point where they have developed skills and accumulated techniques but find themselves wondering how to move their work forward. This immersive five-day workshop is designed to help artists break out of habitual ways of working, embrace experimentation, and reconnect with intuition as an essential part of their creative process.

Working with drawing, acrylic paint, acrylic monotypes, collage, and R&F Pigment Sticks® and Drawing Oils®, participants will create layered surfaces that serve as both a starting point and a record of discovery. Through demonstrations, guided prompts, and experimentation, we will explore repetition, variation, texture, color, and composition while working in multiples. Emphasis is placed on process rather than predetermined outcomes, allowing unexpected connections and recurring themes to emerge.

Throughout the week, artists will learn strategies for generating momentum, re-entering work that feels stalled, and developing greater confidence in decision-making. Individual feedback, group dialogue, and daily studio exploration will support each participant in identifying what is most compelling in their work and discovering what the work needs next.

Participants can expect to:

  • Work in multiples to encourage experimentation and reduce perfectionism
  • Explore layering, collage, drawing, and paint as tools for discovery
  • Develop strategies for reworking, editing, and transforming surfaces
  • Strengthen their understanding of color, texture, rhythm, and composition
  • Identify recurring visual interests and emerging themes within their work
  • Receive individual feedback and participate in group discussions
