Join Ann for an immersive watercolor and mixed media workshop designed to cultivate a loose, intuitive, and personal painting style. Each day features technique demonstrations, design discussions, supportive dialogue, and constructive critique.
Explore expressive painting through playful gesture, layered color, and the fluid movement of watercolor. Experiment with loose washes and intuitive mark-making using a variety of drawing and painting tools, including markers, pencils, crayons, and retired credit cards. Incorporate gouache to define shapes, heighten contrast, and create dynamic negative space while exploring the relationships between shape, value, and essential design principles.
This workshop emphasizes emotion, movement, and personal expression while strengthening your foundation in water-based media. Paint what you feel—layer by layer.
Open to artists of all levels, the workshop encourages creative exploration without preliminary drawing or planning. Whether your work leans toward abstraction or representation, Ann will guide you in developing your unique artistic voice. Through florals, landscapes, figurative work, and abstraction, participants will explore intuitive approaches grounded in the elements and principles of design. Expect bold marks, dynamic compositions, and an openness to the unexpected as your work evolves naturally and authentically.

About Ann Greene
Ann holds a BS in Medical Laboratory Technology from Saint Francis University and built a successful career in healthcare as both a clinical laboratory technologist and a healthcare information technology analyst. Her artistic journey began with a watercolor class at a local high school—an experience she describes as “love at first splash” upon watching cerulean blue pigment bloom across wet paper. That moment sparked a deep commitment to painting.
She went on to study with numerous accomplished artists, continually expanding her skills and refining her distinctive voice. Ann works in watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and collage, creating pieces that range from loose, stylized florals to abstract expressionism and spontaneous, intuitive paintings created with random marks made with inks, markers, and water-soluble pencils. The focus is on strong shapes and values, dynamic compositions, and embracing the unexpected as the artwork unfolds.
Ann is a signature member of multiple prestigious organizations, including the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society of America, Women in Watercolor, Garden State Watercolor Society, New Jersey Watercolor Society, International Society of Experimental Artists (Master Fellow), Watercolor West, and the Baltimore Watercolor Society. Her work is held in regional and national collections.
She has received numerous awards in juried exhibitions, including the Best in Show from the New Jersey Watercolor Society (2024), the NJWS Memorial Award from the New Jersey Watercolor Society (2025), the Rose Mehaffey Memorial Award Transparent Watercolor Society America (2025), the First Place Abstract Award from Women in Watercolor (2022), the National Watercolor Society Award XXI (2022), and the Lily Y Award from Watercolor West (2018).
